Look closely, gang: GovTrack: H.R. 5122: Text of Legislation
Sandwiched in between "Sec. 1075. Patent term extensions for the badges of the American Legion, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion." and "Sec. 1077. Increased hunting and fishing opportunities for members of the Armed Forces, retired members, and disabled veterans." is another nail in the coffin of American liberty.
"Sec. 1076. Use of the Armed Forces in major public emergencies." is a nasty piece of legislation which bypasses the checks and balances on the establishment of martial law provided by the Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335 and Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385).
....More below the fold
Take a minute to read this analysis.
Condensed version for short attention spans:
For the current President, "enforcement of the laws to restore public order" means to commandeer guardsmen from any state, over the objections of local governmental, military and local police entities; ship them off to another state; conscript them in a law enforcement mode; and set them loose against "disorderly" citizenry - protesters, possibly, or those who object to forced vaccinations and quarantines in the event of a bio-terror event.
The law also facilitates militarized police round-ups and detention of protesters, so called "illegal aliens," "potential terrorists" and other "undesirables" for detention in facilities already contracted for and under construction by Halliburton. That's right. Under the cover of a trumped-up "immigration emergency" and the frenzied militarization of the southern border, detention camps are being constructed right under our noses, camps designed for anyone who resists the foreign and domestic agenda of the Bush administration.
If you find any sources from the middle of road press, toss them into the comments.
This is not the social contract I signed on for. Between this and the assault on the Bill of Rights that is the Military Commissions Act of 2006, I am so deeply offended, and disgusted with George W. Bush and all the lazy, coasting congress-twits from BOTH PARTIES that simply sign off on this shit instead of doing the job we hired them for, vis. protecting the Interests and FREEDOMS of their constituencies that I'm frankly torn between voting Libertarian which is where my conscience votes; voting Democrat just to slow Bush and his brown-shirt brigade down; and simply giving up and applying for asylum in Canada.
I'm flying a black flag on election day.
